Rekstizzy and I go way back. Before he was in a documentary, before he had his own web series, before he had his own culture website. It was just a guy and his craft. We catch up years and years later to talk shop about the evolution of his music, production, and the different iterations of hip-hop, what’s been covered and what hasn’t been. Asians in hip-hop are interesting for people – I’m very interested in identity politics and the idea of how identity plays a role in hip-hop, how that identity changes, and how the manifestation of hip-hop is different overseas or based on who’s telling their stories.
