Dixon Hill
Dixon Hill's music is the boom bap mantra of a musical nomad; reflecting the emotions and humor of a man who's had to climb his way out of obscurity. He was living out of his van, traveling the country, digging for records, and working any gig he could find. With an SP-404, an analog tape machine, and a portable turntable, he crafted two beat tapes which eventually led to a watershed collaboration with Detroit rapper Guilty Simpson called 'Actus Reus'. We talk about the journey; the 10,000 hours therein, that result in his newest instrumental album, 'Holodeck Beats: Program 3,' which beautifully captures the feeling of isolation while also being a treasure trove of head-nodding beats.
